We felt like celebrities

Decker elder in Hungary
Anyám és csaladom,

I have heard a ton of cool things from conference. I am really excited to get to watch it this weekend. I don´t know how much of it I will see, but I am sure it will be wonderful. . . .

This last week was an interesting one. Last Tuesday I went on splits with Elder Mullen. He is part of the other companionship here in Eger. He is only on his fourth transfer. The best part is our two programs we were going to have we got dogged, so all day we ended up just talking to people while doing finding. It was actually quite a successful day (until the end). We gave out BOMs and received some numbers to call. We were happy about it. The most interesting part was when we went to Maklár to tract at around 6. It went alright at first. We talked to a few people and gave out a couple BOMs and got some people to say to come back. But then it got dark. Supposedly Hungarians get really mad if you disturb them during the dark hours, in regards to tracting. Usually we go in and have dinner at 8, but with our new mission president he is trying to change this so that dinner is earlier and we tract later into the night, so we tried to be obedient. So the first house, was ok, he wasn´t too mad. At this point we were a little apprehensive about the whole thing, because everone´s lights were off, and no one was out. We were the only ones around. So we said about three prayers and asked God if this is what we should be doing. We didn´t get a direct answer, so we chose obedience, and kept going. It actually didn´t end up being too bad, because no one would answer their doors, so we endured it out, and got some people mad, wasn´t bad though. Then it was bad. We headed back to the train stop to catch a train at 8:15 (the last one back) and the trains were closed down because the tracks were being repaired. So then we had to wait for a replacement bus to come, but meanwhile rain started come down in sheets and there was lightning that came down that made you go blind. Basically, this wasn´t a good sign to us. After enduring the rain again, the bus came, and we traveled home.

Wednesday was awesome because of a lesson we had with Gábor. We taught about prayer and how he can receive help. I received the prompting that I should promise him that if he ever feels like smoking, if he prays, the temptation will go away. We then all kneeled in a circle and we all took a turn praying for Gábor, it was a wonderful lesson.

Thursday was cool because we had a moment to feel like celebrities. (of course the work we did that day was cool as well) While we were in the Branch house some random Hungarian High School students came in and asked Elder Wright and I to follow them for some school thing. Well we did and it turns out that 10 schools were competing and one of the tasks was to find foreigners to bring to this building and have their names written down and they would receive points. As we entered everyone started cheering for us and asking who we were and where we were from, we then got candy, and I gave out English class flyers. It was a good moment because for once everyone were on our team rather than the other stuff. It was real awkward though because it also opened up the chance for girls to compliment me on my eyes. I guess people still notice that. When that started happening though, we ran away. That moment actually opened up a chance to get more involved with some of the youth here, and we are hoping this could be a chance to get more people aware of the church. We will see though.

I am trying a new was of organizing my notes. That is why I am going by days. Friday was a pretty normal day. We did go visit that lady that let us in last weekend. She made us come in again and eat more stuff. We got this good dessert called a holabda (snowball) This last week we actually made ourselfs rakott krumpli (stacked potatos) and we got to people to feed us. So the weirdest thing from last week would be either the sweet cabbage, or this salad that had carrots, peas, apples, corn, mayo, and tejföl (a sweet sour cream). It was really weird, but it grew on me as I forced more in my mouth.
I don´t bike around. There are two bikes here we could use, but one is broken and none of us want to spend the time or money to fix it, so I mostly just walk, and I have done a ton of it. It is kind of exciting because my shoes are already taking a toll from it. I have a goal to totally destroy my shoes from so much walking.
Decker elder and Wright elder bowling
Saturday was the day of when I experienced the most denials I ever had. We didn´t get anything. It was hard. We streeted for a couple hours and I feel like all we did was walk until our feet were sore. We tried talking to many people, but none wanted to talk back. It was very weird to us. We did take a couple hours and went bowling with the Scott´s with our investigator Gábor. Honestly I didn´t enjoy the bowling, but it was good for Gábor because we are trying really hard to keep him off smoking, after that we did a little more streeting and then we went to the Nagy family´s home with the Scott´s. My first Hungarian meal!!! It was really good. There was this weird homemade sausage with potatoes, pickled cauliflower and pickles, and then there was sweet cabbage. I enjoyed it all. The Nagy family has four people. The parents, and the two kids. The kids are members, but the parents aren´t. The dad won´t get married. There is a popular thing here that is a lot cheaper to do, and it is called being a "life long partner". Not a good thing for the church.

Well I said a lot today. I hope it makes up for last week where I was really rushed to write. Quite a week it was. . . I have had many miracles occur in the last weeks. I have never felt God so near to me. And like I taught many times last week. Prayer is real. And God truly answers prayers. Although it has been hard, and this will be the hardest week Eger has seen for a long time, (with missionary work) I can do this with God´s help. What a crazy place it has been to white wash, and be a greenie in, but God didn´t put me here to fail, and I will do my best until I am transferred elsewhere.

I love this work and all its hardships.

Szeretetemmel
